Coastal Risk Consulting, LLC (CRC), is a Southeast Florida-based, geospatial data and analytics startup. CRC is the only provider of online, Software as a Service (SaaS), comprehensive, coastal climate impact assessments to individuals, businesses and governments in the US and internationally. We began business in 2015 with three world-class scientists and university professors, who believed that cloud-based, climate impact risk analysis was required to help a billion coastal residents around the world get climate ready and storm safe. We are now an emerging major player in the climate adaptation tech and climate adaptation consulting industries. CRC’s Science Director will be the “face and voice” of CRC. This means that the Science Director will either have or will be in the process of developing a public (national/international) presence in the area of climate adaptation and resilience. On a day-to-day basis, the Science Director manages technical employees, implements modeling procedures and project development, and communicates with the management team as well as current and potential clients. The modelling responsibilities require a technical background that allows for: (1) GIS methodology development and (2) quality assurance/ quality control to supervise products and product development. While the Science Director need not be a computer programmer, the candidate will oversee the software developers. The Science Director's facilitation of project teams requires identifying resources (in and out of the company), establishing objectives, timelines, and deliverables that are aligned with assigning tasks and responsibilities. This requires both leadership and creativity in maximizing efficiency and effectiveness. For example, if problems arise, they must be handled in a timely and appropriate manner and with full communication to the management team.
This position requires extensive knowledge of complex systems within the field of geospatial and climate science, as well as the built and natural environment. The candidate must be adept with GIS and have a deep understanding of sea level rise, groundwater, storm and tidal measurements and modelling, stormwater infrastructure modelling.
- Experience: A minimum of two or more years of previous and relevant post-graduate experience in geospatial and climate risk consulting.
- Education: A Master’s Degree and preferably a PhD in a relevant area.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Suite products (Word, Excel, Power Point)
